Fire station # 37 was established in 1984 as a single company station, housing an engine company to offer basic fire-rescue services to the central/western area of Miami-Dade County. Since the station sits next to the western stretch of a popular street known as Bird Rd., the station was named the “Westbird” fire station. Rescue 37 was added in 1988 as the area and its population continued to grow. Prior to the opening of other neighboring fire stations, station 37’s territory extended as far as the Florida Everglades to the Collier County line west on Tamiami Trail and Krome Avenue.

Station 37’s territory is mostly residential, even though we do have our share of commercial occupancies such as strip malls, office buildings, several private and public schools, shopping centers, and even a large golf course with one of the country’s most popular road bicycle routes on its perimeter known as Kendale Lakes. Out of the many residential areas located inside station 37’s territory, there is a large number of apartment buildings and townhouses including a highrise. The most popular communities inside our territory include Lakes of the Meadows, Woodburry, Bent Tree, Caribe Lakes, and Horse Country, which along with other areas of our response territory include a large number of residential structures exceeding 5000 square feet in size.
